Industrial Logging in Wisconsin......
The paper industry seems to be the biggest power in Wisconsin. But....
The American companies in central Wisconsin - Consolidated Papers, Georgia Pacific, Lousiana Pacific... have sold out to European Corporations -Stora Enso and Domtar. Huge areas of paper company lands have been cut over and sold off for development and recreation. Industrial profit-taking and down-sizing are eliminating jobs.
Yet they still control timber prices at the mills (Supply and Demand) and are the dominant force in "Sustainable Forestry" today in Wisconsin
Wisconsin timberlands have been overharvested and high-graded and fragmented to the point these companies are having a hard time supplying their needs. Our government works in many ways to keep the flow of wood moving for them.
